Sylvia Bouchard uses traditional needle arts such as sewing, hand quilting, embroidery, smocking, crochet and felting to create art, ranging from decorative wall art and 3-d sculptures, to more practical vessels and table coverings, as well as wearable art such as jackets, cowls, handbags and jewellery.

She uses the unique qualities of textiles which can be manipulated to create texture in quilted landscapes, unspun wool to build 3-d felted shapes, blocks of colour fibre like paint in pictures and the repetitive use of coloured fabric shapes to create special effects and optical illusions.
